Queen Mary University of London invites applications for a three-year fully funded PhD studentship commencing in September 2014. The studentship will contribute to the development of the newly established Life Sciences Institute at Queen Mary. The successful applicant will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of researchers working on the impact of the topology and dynamics of social networks on the development of mental disorders.The supervisory team will include Prof. Stephen Stansfeld (Centre for Psychiatry), Dr. Pietro Panzarasa (School of Business and Management), and Dr. Lucas Lacasa (School of Mathematical Sciences). The team will be working on a project that will integrate various perspectives enabling the development and validation of new hypotheses on the etiology of depression through the use of theories of social capital and social networks, and the formalisation and application of new metrics and mathematical models for complex networks.
